El Nio preparedness workshop Saturday in Santa Cruz

The city of Santa Cruz will host an El Nio preparedness workshop on Saturday, Nov. 21.

The event will be held at the Civic Auditorium at 307 Church St. from 12 to 4 p.m.

Former City of Santa Cruz Fire Battalion Chief Matt McCaslin will host one of 17 booths. His booth will focus on lessons learned from the El Nio in 1982-1983.

“While the City is doing all it can to protect infrastructure, we are also committed to helping every single resident prepare for the potential havoc of an El Nio winter,” said Fire Chief Jim Frawley. “The many booths at our workshop underscore my prime message: don’t wait; prepare now!”

The event is free, and family-oriented.
