Morgan Hill shooting leads to three arrests on Highway 101

A shooting in Morgan Hill led to the arrest of three suspects on Highway 101.

According to Morgan Hill Police, the shooting occurred Tuesday afternoon on Butterfield Boulevard and E Main Avenue directly across the street from a school.

A spokesperson for the Morgan Hill Unified School District, said El Toro Elementary was placed on lockdown between 12:35 and 1 p.m. The lockdown was lifted without incident.

Police said officers found a 62-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his chest at the scene on Calle Mazatan Avenue.

Around 1:30 p.m. the department said three suspects were taken into custody on southbound Highway 101.

“We have information to believe this was not a random act, the investigation is ongoing,” said Morgan Hill Police.

No injuries have been reported.

The suspects have been identified as 20-year-old Amado Hernandez, 21-year-old Alex Griego and 25-year-old Justin Heppler. They were arrested for attempted homicide, robbery and burglary. A firearm was also recovered from their vehicle.
