Truck fire sparks outside Salinas Municipal Airport

A truck caught fire outside the Salinas Municipal Airport Friday afternoon.

Salinas Fire responded to the scene on Mercer Way where a white Chevrolet pick up truck was up in flames around 1:30 p.m.

The driver suffered burns to his hands, but no one else was inside the vehicle. He told KION he had lit his mail on fire and before he could dispose it, the truck was up in flames.

Firefighters were able to quickly put out the flames and mopped up the area.
