Warmer weather on the Central Coast in December

This winter on the Central Coast has started out much warmer and drier than those in years past.

Santa Cruz residents are noticing the change and some taking advantage of the warmer weather.

“It’s warm for this time of year,” said Santa Cruz resident Valerie St. Denis.

For surfers like Taylor Vogt, this weather causes some mixed feelings.

“I mean it’s been beautiful, but we need some rain. We need some snow so I can get up to the

Sierras, but I’ll take it on the coast when we are getting this kind of weather and some good waves and offshore winds,” said Taylor Vogt.

However, mornings in Santa Cruz are a different story, and traffic director Michael Jackson knows that pretty well.

“We usually start about 7:30 and it’s pretty chilly about that time when we are having our safety meeting. Towards the afternoon it starts to warm up a little bit like it is right now. That’s why I took off my jacket.”
