Woman caught selling wallet stolen from Bear Fire evacuees

A Boulder Creek woman was arrested after being caught trying to sell an item stolen from Bear Fire evacuees.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office said last October, a family in Lompico returned home after being evacuated during the fire and while they were unpacking their car, they noticed a couple of bags had disappeared from the front of their home. A valuable wallet was also missing.

The Sheriff’s Office said the victim then noticed their wallet was recently listed for sale on Craigslist. Investigators reached out to the seller who agreed to meet with them on Tuesday, December 12th.

22-year-old Paige Clinite was then busted for trying to sell the wallet. It was valued at nearly $1,500.

The wallet has been returned to its owner, but investigators are still looking for the other missing items.

The Sheriff’s Office urges anyone who notices items that appear to be stolen to call 831-471-1121.
