Multiple shots fired in Greenfield, two arrested

Two men were arrested after an alert citizen called police after hearing multiple gun shots in Greenfield.

According to Greenfield Police, Thursday around 8:50 p.m. officers responded to the 300 block of Apple Avenue. When officers arrived they heard an additional gunshot. They saw two men in the area, 43-year-old Efren Morales Ballesteros and 35-year-old Javier Dejesus Cruz, both Greenfield residents. Police said Ballesteros was detained but Cruz fled on foot and crossed Highway 101.
Officers found Cruz in the 100 block of 5th Street. Cruz was in possession of a semi-automatic handgun and drug paraphernalia. Cruz told police he did fire the handgun in the air several times.

“Cruz was arrested for Negligent Discharge of a Firearm, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Unlawful Possession of a Concealed Firearm. Ballesteros was arrested for Violation of Probation,” said Greenfield Police.

Both men were booked and taken to the Monterey County Jail.
