Capitola crowds crazy for classic cars
Saturday saw a big turnout for the Capitola Rod and Custom Classic Car Show. People showed up to see everything from muscle cars to roadsters to Woodies. One special station wagon was getting a whole lot of attention.
If you’ve ever wondered how the station wagon got its name, the owner of the 1929 Ford Model A station wagon has your answer.
John Lackey of Santa Cruz, attending his 10th car show in Capitola, says Ford built the vehicles for train travelers. “They made these station wagons to take people from the railroad station to the hotel, Lackey said. “They needed a vehicle to get multiple people back and forth so they came up with this.”
Lackey said his Model A was the fifth made on the first day of production in Los Angeles, and has been rebuilt from the frame up.
The Capitola Rod and Custom Classic Car Show continues 9am Sunday, June 5 and closes at 2pm.
