District Attorney Investigating Claims of Brown Act Violations

The Monterey County District Attorney’s office says it’s looking into what the Monterey County Board of Supervisors discuss in their closed session meetings after receiving several complaints about possible Brown Act violations.

The office is currently interviewing county leaders to determine if the state law, which mandates certain things only be discussed with the public present, was violated.

More than 50 meetings are in question, including some performance reviews in closed meetings where supervisors could have talked about things like water and hospitals, which shouldn’t have been discussed.

The investigation started about two weeks ago. The District Attorney’s Office told Central Coast News on Monday it hopes to have wrapped up its investigation by the end of February.
