Hardin Fire in Napa County burns 78 acres near Pope Valley

A vegetation fire was burning in northern Napa County Monday afternoon, northeast of Angwin.
Cal Fire said the Hardin Fire began at about 2:40 p.m. in the area of Hardin Road and Pope Canyon Road, east of Chiles Pope Valley Road.
The fire had burned 78 acres as of 11 p.m. with 60% containment.
A status report at 3:45 p.m. said that crews were making good progress on the fire and that there were no evacuation orders. As of 5:10 p.m., forward progress of the fire had been stopped.
Fire officials credited a rapid and coordinated response from firefighters on the ground and in the air for preventing any structures from being damaged or destroyed.
The fire burned primarily through annual grasses and spread at a moderate rate, Cal Fire said.
Volunteer firefighters with the Napa County Fire Department also assisted in the response by deploying three water tenders and one engine to the incident while staffing an additional engine to provide continued fire protection for the Spanish Flat community and the Lake Berryessa area.
The cause was under investigation.
With temperatures expected to rise this week, Cal Fire urged residents to help prevent wildfires by avoiding activities that could spark a fire, securing trailer chains, limiting outdoor activities that could ignite dry vegetation and reporting any signs of smoke immediately by calling 911.
