Two people were hospitalized after a shooting Saturday evening at Woodward Reservoir, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies responded around 7:40 p.m. to reports of a fight involving several people at the reservoir. While they were on the way, deputies learned a gun may have been involved.

Investigators found that two people had been shot. Both were taken to a local hospital and remained in stable condition, officials said.

Jorge Jimenez, 45, of Oakland, was identified as the suspect. Authorities said he left the scene with two other people in a van.

Deputies later stopped the van, but Jimenez was no longer inside. The two other occupants were detained and later released.

Jimenez was eventually arrested after authorities received reports of suspicious activity near the reservoir. He was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

Authorities said deputies remained at Woodward Reservoir while investigators processed the scene. Portions of the park may have restricted access during the investigation.
