Pink police cruiser returns to Watsonville for breast cancer awareness

Watsonville police have a pink cruiser for the second year in a row in an attempt to raise awareness about breast cancer.

Police said the goal is to spark conversations in the community about breast cancer and the importance of pre-screening. Chaz Design and its team spent six hours designing the car wrap and another 16 hours installing it.

“So of course, colors were important, and then the ribbons represent. PD came up with their patch, which is awesome, and it all just came together,” explained Frank Chavez, the owner of Chaz Design.

The police department said that even though Breast Cancer Awareness Month is in October, it got a three-month head start to reach its goal of raising $15,000 for the Pink Patch Project campaign.

“If there are any local businesses who would also like to donate, please contact us and we will be more than happy to take our pink cruiser to your business for an hour so that you can have an opportunity to check it out, ” said Officer Elizabeth Sousa.

This is the fourth year Watsonville police have participated in the Pink Project. Last year, the department had a record-breaking number of funds raised. The department raised $9,116, and that was presented to representatives from the Katz Cancer Resource Center at Dominican Hospital to be used to help Watsonville families who cannot afford breast cancer treatment or services.
