Salinas man sentenced to prison for assault on peace officer, filing false report

A Salinas man was sentenced to four years and eight months in prison for assault on a peace officer, evading and filing a false police report.

Arnulfo Bravo, 34, was found guilty in April. In August 2017, a Salinas police officer tried to pull over Bravo’s car after he failed to stop at a stop sign, but he sped up instead of pulling over. He ran multiple stop signs and red lights, reaching speeds of 70 MPH in residential neighborhoods. He also sped past a school bus with lights flashing to indicate children were present. The officer ended the pursuit when it became too dangerous.

Later, another officer found Bravo. Bravo turned in to an apartment complex, and the officer parked in the driveway and got out with his gun drawn. Bravo turned his car around and drove at the officer, who had to jump back in his car and close the door to avoid being hit.

Bravo got away, but he later tried to report his vehicle as stolen. The officer who arrived to take the report recognized Bravo and arrested him.
