Man sentenced for sexually abusing a child for nine years
A man was sentenced to 40 years in prison for sexually abusing a family member.
According to the Monterey County District Attorney, 42-year-old Richard Murray entered no contest pleas to nine counts of child sex abuse, three counts of oral copulation, one count of sodomy, one count of sexual penetration, one count of forcible rape and three counts of lewd and lascivious acts.
The District Attorney said Murray abused a family member under 14-years-old. The abuse started when the victim was four-years-old and ending at 13.
Murray also had a prior conviction of child sexual abuse in Oregon in 2012.
The abuse was reported in 2011 by the eight-year-old daughter of Murray’s then girlfriend.
Murray was transported from Oregon after serving his sentence to the Monterey County Jail in 2017.
During sentencing on April 4th, the judge read letters written by two of his victims.
Murray must also register as a sex offender for life.
Marina police helped investigate the case.
