Man arrested for filming girls at Santa Cruz High School swim meet

Marc Lawrence, 21, was arrested last week after police say he was filming underage girls at a High School Swim meet last Thursday.

Police say coaches and the athletic director noticed Lawrence hanging around the porta potties for an extended amount of time and became suspicious.

They called Santa Cruz Police who say after detaining the suspect, they found he was filming girls around the pool while hiding in the porta potties.

Upon further investigation police found more video they believe is from other areas in the city and are looking for other victims.

“We believe that there are other parts of the city where Mr. Lawrence has been filming people so we’re trying to determine if anyone else has witnessed his behavior,” said Santa Cruz Police Lieutenant Warren Barry.

Santa Cruz High School student, Greta Gustafson, says she’s on the wrestling team and was disgusted to hear about the incident.

She said she hopes there are more security measures taken for the athletes, but this wont stop her from competing. “It’s surprising to hear that and find out that’s happening on our campus. I feel like I shouldn’t be afraid, I feel like I’m still pretty safe, but definitely keeping my eyes open.”

Lawrence was arrested on trespassing, child annoyance and disorderly conduct charges. They are all misdemeanors, but police say they could be raised to felony charges.

Anyone who thinks they’ve seen Lawrence filming or doing anything illegal is being asked to call Santa Cruz Police Detectives at 831-420-5839.
