All lanes of Highway 17 reopened after landslide
UPDATE 1/16/2019 6:25 p.m. All lanes of Highway 17 in both directions are reopened at Glenwood Cutoff.
The highway was temporarily closed because of a landslide.
“We had pretty heavy rain that ended up letting up. That’s when the slide happened. Luckily the rain has held off. Who knows what will happen when the rain picks up,” CHP Officer Jeff Lutz told KION on the scene.
Part of the hillside came down with rocks, dirt, and branches covering both southbound lanes.
UPDATE 1/16/2019 5:45 p.m. The right southbound lane of Highway 17 at the Glenwood Cutoff is reopened.
In addition to that, all northbound lanes are reopened, but drivers should still expect delays.
Crews estimate that the southbound lanes will be opened around 6:30 p.m.
UPDATE 1/16/2019 4:41 p.m. One lane of Highway 17 near Glenwood Cutoff is reopened after a mudslide.
CHP says it may be closed again off and on while crews try to clear debris.
There may still be major traffic delays.
PREVIOUS STORY: A mudslide is blocking a southbound lane on Highway 17 in Santa Cruz County.
The California Highway Patrol said the slide happened south of Glenwood Cutoff around 3:48 p.m.
Expect major traffic delays.
