Aptos residents use lure to catch serial burglar

A suspected burglar was caught in the act after Sheriff’s deputies say he broke into the same Aptos guest house several times.

The residents suspected a former tenant, so they set up a system to catch the suspect in the act. They set up a motion sensor surveillance camera and put fake $100 bills in the locked guest house.

The sensor alerted the residents and they saw the burglar in the act.

Sheriff’s deputies were called in, and they arrested Alfonso Lopez when they found him hiding in his car down the street with fake money.

Lopez was arrested for burglary and booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail.
