Watsonville man punches teen in face, steals cell phone

A Watsonville man is behind bars for punching a teenage boy in the face and stealing his cell phone.

The incident took place Friday night in the 400 block of Main Street in Watsonville.

The 15-year-old victim told police that the suspect asked if he could borrow the teen’s phone and that’s when he stole it.

“The suspect looked through the cellphone and then abruptly punched the teen in the face and ran off with the phone,” said WPD.

Officers were able to track down the suspect and later identified him as 33-year-old Isaac Valdivia.

After getting a search warrant, detectives found the teen’s cellphone in Valdivia’s apartment. The cell phone was returned to the boy’s mother.

Valdivia was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail for felony robbery and child abuse charges. His bail has been set to $50,000.
