Flood risks bring crews to Carmel Lagoon

In order to reduce the chance of flooding and balance lagoon habitat protection, the Monterey County Resource Management Agency has brought crews in to lower and contour the sandbar at Carmel River State Beach.

This is done so the river can drain into the ocean, without flooding.

Construction crew should finish the project Friday. The county said this will be completed just in time to beat the rain.

The Carmel River State Beach parking lot on the corner of Carmelo St. and Scenic Rd. will be closed to the public during the work. The county advises not to have ocean water contact until advisory signs are removed.
