Scammers call Monterey residents from police department number

The Monterey Police Department says someone used their phone number (831-646-3830) and called several people attempting to scam them out of money.

The caller or callers demanded those residents pay $3,000 or they would be arrested.

Monterey PD says it is a scam and not coming from them.

If you receive one of those calls you are asked to report it by calling 831-646-3914.
