Family celebrates tradition at Carmel Beach sandcastle competition
Saturday was the 58th annual Great Sandcastle Competition at Carmel Beach. Hundreds of people were there for a chance to win the Golden Shovel.
The Coming family says building sandcastles is a hobby passed down through generations – from father to son, and now father to daughter.
“Every year we do this in sort of a memory of our father, who passed away, but always taught us how to do sandcastles,” Craig Coming said. Scott Coming tells KION “all those old techniques that he taught us come back. And, every time we do that, build a sandcastle, we just feel like he’s hear with us.”
The Coming family ended up winning the Golden Shovel, this year. This was their fifth year competing.
