DUI checkpoint in Watsonville

The Watsonville Police Department is conducting a dui/driver license checkpoint over the weekend.

The checkpoint will be held on December 16th within city limits between the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.

The department said it’s also part of an effort to stop drug-impaired driving.

Over the past three years, Watsonville Police officers have investigated 149 DUI crashes where one person was killed and 24 hurt.

Drivers caught driving impaired can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to include jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspensions and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.

Drivers are encouraged to download the Designated Driver VIP, or “DDVIP,” free mobile app for Android or iPhone. The app helps find nearby bars and restaurants that feature free incentives for the designated sober driver.
