Police find man in possession of stolen gun at Monterey Wharf

Two suspects in Monterey County are behind bars after officers found them in possession of stolen guns.

According to Monterey Police, on December 11, around 7 p.m. officers conducted a foot patrol along the waterfront area of downtown Monterey when officers spotted several people near a car on Wharf 2. During a further investigation the officers found 21-year-old Castroville resident, Jonathan Garate had a stolen handgun. Police said the handgun had been reported stolen from a home in Pacific Grove in November.

The Monterey Police Department, Seaside Police and the Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team (PRVNT) did a follow up investigation and probation search of a home in Seaside. During that search officers found an additional handgun and arrested a 17-year-old boy for possession of the unregistered gun and a probation violation.
