Felton man caught with guns, drugs, and police scanner

Following a tip from a concerned Santa Cruz resident, officers located a man in possession of guns, drugs and roughly a $1,000 in cash.

The Santa Cruz Police Departments Neighborhood Enforcement Team responded to complaints of drug activity in the 800 block of Water Street. On December 8, around 7p.m. officers found a suspicious car parked in that area and located the driver, 61-year-old Felton resident, Leo Beus.

Investigators found Beus to be on probation from a prior case in Santa Cruz County. During a search of his car officers found more than an ounce of methamphetamine, a police scanner, roughly $1,000 in cash, digital scales and two replica firearms.

Beus was taken to the Santa Cruz County Jail, where he was booked for possession of methamphetamine for sales, a probation violation, and other misdemeanor charges.

“The arrest was the result of alert community members recognizing the suspicious activity and contacting us,” said Santa Cruz PD.
