Police step up Halloween patrols in Santa Cruz

More than one hundred police officers were out Halloween night trying to keep people in downtown Santa Cruz safe. Last year an estimated 10,000 people came to the area to celebrate.

Police told KION that barriers are in place to prevent something similar to what happened in New York Tuesday. Still extra patrols were planned well before the attack.

A safety enhancement zone was set up in Santa Cruz between 5 p.m. Tuesday through 5 a.m. the following morning. The enhancement zone meant triple fines for many code violations.

Many of the arrests made Halloween night were due to alchohol distrubances. Police planned to have the extra patrols throughout the night into the morning hours.
