Drugs and more than $30 thousand dollars found on Watsonville man

Just after 10:30 p.m.on Halloween night the Watsonville Police Department was dispatched to the report of a man selling drugs out of his vehicle on the 100 block of Grant Avenue.

Once they arrived on scene they found Ruben Lopez and spotted a small bag of weed in plain sight. Upon further search they found one ounce of suspected methamphetamine and a total of six ounces of marijuana with packaging materials.

During booking, Lopez was found to have over $4,000 in cash in his pockets. A CHP drug dog alerted on his bag and it’s contents , over $24,000 in cash was found inside.

On Wednesday morning, officers served a search warrant of Lopez’s home and seized an additional $4,000, making the final total $32,000.

He was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail for his new charges. A judge increased Lopez’ bail to $50,000 because he was already out on bail for a separate drug sales case.
