SANTA CRUZ: Technology shows what areas could look like in the future

Santa Cruz County leaders gathered Tuesday at the corner of Soquel Drive and Chanticleer Ave in Santa Cruz to unveil new visual technology that they hope will help them better plan for the future.

The new technology looks very similar to a telescope that you might find at a tourist destination like Fisherman’s Wharf in Monterey, but instead of looking out on the bay, viewers see an interactive graphic showing a plan for what that area might look with sustainable transportation and mixed using housing.

According to Karena Pushnik with Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission, viewers will see two different scenarios, one long-term and one short-term idea. They will also be asked to take a short survey so the county can get their input.

The project was paid for from grant from Caltrans.
