Diesel spill causes heavy delays on Highway 101 in Salinas

The morning commute into Salinas might have been a slow one as one of the lanes on Highway 101 is closed due to a diesel spill on the roadway.

According to the California Highway Patrol, 25 gallons of diesel fuel spilled for about 100 yards on southbound Highway 101 at Boronda Road. The spill occurred just after 7 a.m. CHP said the diesel tank was somehow punctured causing fuel to leak out.

Caltrans is on scene cleaning up and drivers can expect delays until 10 a.m.
