Gilroy: Salvation Army catches fire

The Salvation Army store in Gilroy will be closed for several days after a fire broke out early Monday morning.

According to city officials, the fire started around 2 a.m. Gilroy Fire responded to the 2 alarm fire which closed portions of Holloway Road and Camino Arroyo. The fire started in a tractor trailer located in the loading dock area.

“The fire extended into the building but was held in check by the sprinkler system,” said Gilroy Fire.

The 53′ trailer was full of donations that were going to be taken to San Jose and distributed to other Salvation Army stores.

Morgan Hill and South Santa Clara fire assisted Gilroy Fire with the incident.

No injuries were reported and Holloway Road was back open around 6:45 a.m.

Gilroy Fire officials said a similar fire occurred about 6 months ago at a Home Goods nearby.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and surveillance video will be reviewed.
