Santa Cruz & Monterey Counties to aid those with DACA concerns
UPDATE 9/14 6:30PM:
The DACA renewal deadline is coming up on October 5, 2017.
Immigration attorney, Doug Keegan, with Santa Cruz County Immigration Project, is speaking out about what DACA recipients need to know about these upcoming renewals. Keegan says, it is critical for recipients to turn in their renewal applications several days before the deadline to make sure immigration receives the application on time. He also recommends getting someone knowledgeable about DACA to review the application before it is submitted.
“If they send it in and they’re missing something it’s very likely the application will get rejected after the deadline of October 5th and they won’t have the ability to then send in their application so it’s very important they send in their application correct and submitted before the deadline,” says Keegan.
There are close to 1,000 DACA recipients up for renewal on the Central Coast. To be eligible your DACA must expire between the dates of September 5, 2017 and March 5, 2018. The renewal comes with a price tag of $495.
Free clinics will be held around the Central Coast to answer questions about the renewal process, or to review applications. Keegan says the organization, Mission Asset Fund, has received 1 million dollars to help recipients that are eligible for renewal, pay that application fee.
Documents required to renew DACA are 2 passport sized photos, your work permit, a copy of your previous application (if possible), and a check for the application fee.
