Marina house fire displaces family of 10, and multiple pets

A family of 10 and their pets have been displaced after a house fire Sunday night.

The Marina Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire on Max Circle around 9:00. Officials say upon arrival, fire personnel observed smoke and flames coming from the garage of a single-family residence.

The fire was extending out the openings of the garage to the eves and roof areas. The fire was also threatening a vehicle parked in the driveway along with the house next door.

Crews then conducted ventilation procedures to remove toxic gases and heat out of the residence.
At the time of the fire, nine adults and one toddler were at home along with numerous dogs. Officials say all occupants were able to exit the house safely.

The fire originated in the garage, although the cause remains under investigation. The garage was destroyed by the fire with heat and smoke damage extending throughout the residence.

The Red Cross of the Central Coast responded and provided financial aid and temporary shelter for the displaced residents. Damage to the structure is estimated to be approximately $195,200 plus an undetermined amount for contents.
