Motorcycles compete to help raise money for local Veterans Cemetery completion

The first annual Bike Show and Swap Meet kicked off in Spreckels this weekend with more than 20 bikes going head to head for the best of show prize.

Proceeds from the event will go to the California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery located in the old Fort Ord, which provides a final resting place for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

“They only have the column burial when you can have the in-wall burials,” Ignacio Alvarez with the American Legion Riders said. “The second phase would be in-ground burials. Raising the funds and raising awareness for that effort as well.”

Members of the American Legion Riders will also embark on a 10,000 mile cross-country motorcycle ride in September in an effort to raise $500,000 dollars for the cemetery.
