Water main repairs underway in Monterey

UPDATE: 8/24/2017 9:54 a.m. A water main break in downtown Monterey still has roads closed Thursday morning.

According to California American Water, a 16 inch and 4 inch pipe broke Wednesday night at the intersection of Abrego and Webster streets. The 16 inch pipe has been repaired however the 4 inch pipe is still leaking water.

The road is expected to be back open sometime between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. Cal Am said some customers in the area still do not have water.

A major water main break in downtown Monterey has closed roads and cut water for people in the city.

Cal Am says there’s a 16 inch water main break at the intersection of Abrego and Webster streets. Crews have just stabilized the break, but are shutting down the two streets as a precaution. Multiple streets were initially filled with water.

Cal Am crews will be working through the night to repair the break. Some people are without water and there’s no estimate of when it will be restored.
