Santa Cruz clergy shows support for Sanctuary State bill

Members from local religious communities gathered today to voice their support for the so-called “Sanctuary State” legislation.

SB54 would prohibit state and local law enforcement agencies from using resources to investigate, detain, or arrest people for immigration enforcement purposes.

Per local ordinance, Santa Cruz is already considered a sanctuary jurisdiction.

And today members of the Santa Cruz religious community say they value and embrace immigrant families and, “don’t want them devastated by federal government oppression.”

At 6 p.m. KION’s Ashley Keehn has more from the Santa Cruz Police chief about how being a sanctuary city has impacted the amount of crimes being reported, especially after recent raids by ICE.
