Salinas Police crack down on DUI drivers

The Salinas Police Department will be cracking down on drivers under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

The department said officers will be conducting a DUI checkpoint Thursday night at an undisclosed location in Salinas. The location chosen based on history of DUI arrests and collisions in the area.

“Studies have proven that DUI checkpoints reduce the number of DUI crashes and the number of injuries and deaths associated with these crashes. The purpose of the checkpoint is to promote public safety, act as a deterrent to drunk/drugged driving, and educate the public on the dangers of drunk/drugged driving,” said Sgt. Gerard Ross.

The checkpoint starts at 6 p.m. and will run about 5 hours.
