California company collecting eclipse glasses for underdeveloped countries

With the motto “One people – One sky,” Astronomers Without Borders has donated previously to countries in Africa and South America, but in small quantities because they had to raise money to buy the glasses. Monday’s eclipse has given them the chance to give many more to South America and Asia, where people will be able to protect their eyes during the next total eclipse in 2019. “In most undeveloped countries it’s impossible to get a hold of these glasses and so we focus mostly on those places. With the large number of glasses that were getting we will probably have enough to send to other countries beyond 2019,” said Astronomers Without Borders Founder Mike Simmons. Astronomers without borders is looking to set up drop off locations around the area, so just hold onto them a little longer.Check the group’s website for the latest information on the program and where to donate.
