Marina man sentenced to 18 years in prison for sexual assault of a minor

UPDATE 8/18/2017 4:51 p.m. A Marina man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for sexually assaulting a child under the age of 14.

25-year-old Peter Moore was sentenced to five years in the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation for one count of Forcible Lewd Act Upon a Child and a consecutive four-year term for two additional counts of non-forcible Lew Acts Upon a Child.

These counts stem from an incident in December of 2015, where the 13-year-old victim was sexually assaulted by Moore at her family home.

Moore’s previous “strike” conviction for first degree burglary in 2011 was considered by Judge Carrie Panetta per the “three strike” law. This doubled the nine years imposed for a total sentence of 18 years in CDCR.

Moore was also ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

PREVIOUS STORY:

Peter Moore, 25, of Marina, didn’t contest charges of forcible child molestation and two counts of non-forcible child molestation on a 13-year-old girl who was a family member of the defendant’s girlfriend for the crimes that happened in December 2015, according to Monterey County District Attorney Dean D. Flippo.

The teenager reported her molestation to a school official who contacted the Marina Police Department. Monterey County Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Sheree Goldman performed a physical exam on the girl at the Bates-Eldridge Child Advocacy Center and collected DNA samples.

Authorities traced DNA from Moore to the teenage girl. On June 1, Judge Carrie Panetta will sentence the defendant to 18 years in state prison and Moore will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

District Attorney Investigator Oliver Minnig, in his former capacity as a detective with the Marina Police Department, investigated the case.
