UPDATE: Arrest made in hash oil fire investigation

UPDATE 8/15/2017 8:00 p.m.: A man has been arrested for a hash oil fire in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

The Sheriff’s Office took Ray Mosier into custody for the fire.

UPDATE 8/15/2017 1:27 p.m. The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office determined a shed fire in the Santa Cruz mountains was started by a hash oil lab explosion.

Sheriff Deputies responded to a call of an explosion in the area of 150 Mill Road Monday. After the fire was put out deputies began investigating and gathered remnants of the explosion and other items within the burnt shed. The Sheriff’s Office said the items are commonly used in the extraction of hash oil from marijuana oil.

The Sheriff’s Office has identified the man using the shed as 57-year-old Ray Mosier. Mosier lives on the property but wasn’t home when the authorities arrived.

“The Sheriff’s Office is looking to speak with Mosier regarding his involvement with the possible Manufacture of Concentrated Cannabis on the property,” said Lt. Bob Payne.

Residents in the Santa Cruz mountains reported hearing a loud explosion on a neighbors property.

According to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, neighbors reported an explosion at 150 Mill Road around 10:45 a.m. Monday. A shed on the property caught fire.

Firefighters responded and were able to put the shed fire out at the rear of the house. No injuries were reported.

The owner of the property said his grandson lives in the building and keeps his motorcycles in the shed.

The Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
