Victim of deadly Highway 1 crash identified

UPDATE 8/14/17 2:12 p.m. The California Highway Patrol released the name of the driver who died in a crash on Highway 1 Friday night.

35-year-old Elizabeth Gutierrez of San Juan Bautista died after officials said she made an unsafe turning movement into the path of another car south of Imjin Parkway.

CHP said the deadly car crash is still under investigation.

California Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly car crash that took place on Friday night on southbound Highway 1, south of Imjin Parkway.

Officials said for an unknown reason the 35 year-old driver of a Hyundai made an unsafe turning movement to the left about 11:30 p.m., driving from the right shoulder into the southbound traffic lanes, perpendicular to the roadway and into the path of another car.

The front of the second car then broadsided the Hyundai, causing it to cross into the center median. The CHP said a third car swerved to the left in an attempt to avoid a crash but hit the Hyundai.

Officials said the driver of the Hyundai died at the scene. All others who were injured were taken to a nearby hospital with minor to moderate injuries.

The CHP said the deadly car crash is still under investigation.
