Salinas high school teacher accused of inappropriate contact with student

A Salinas High School teacher was charged with three misdemeanors for inappropriate contact with a 16-year-old student.

The incident happened back in November of 2016. On July 26, the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office said Young Park, a teacher at Everett Alvarez High School, plead not guilty to charges of sexual battery and annoying/molesting a child.

Salinas Union High School Statement : “On August 3, 2017 the District was informed that a Salinas Union High School District teacher has been charged with three misdemeanors. the charges appear to be related to an incident that occurred on the Everett Alvarez High School campus on November 29, 2016. The incident was reported to the Salinas Police Department at the time and was fully investigated by the District. The District took appropriate action regarding the employee, but is unable to comment due to the confidentiality required in personnel matter. The teacher is currently on leave pending further information from law enforcement.”

Park was released on his own recognizance. If convicted he could face up to three years in jail and have to register as a sex offender.

Park is set to be back in court on Friday.
