Inmate tests positive for Tuberculosis in Monterey County Jail

According to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office one inmate has tested positive for Tuberculosis.

The inmate was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Anywhere from 90-100 inmates were in the same pod and may have been exposed. About 120 deputies were working at that time, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

All inmates and staff that may have been exposed are being offered testing and treatment if they test positive.

The Monterey County Health Department is now the lead investigating agency.

“We have identified those individuals who may have been exposed and they’re being tested. This is not a risk to the public at large,” said Karen Smith, Public Information Officer of the Monterey County Health Department.
