Salinas murder suspect arrested in 2015 case
A man is in custody for a murder he allegedly committed in Salinas two years ago.
Monday, 22-year-old Angel Ramirez was arrested by Salinas Police for the shooting death of 42-Dexter Barnett Sr on January 10, 2015. The shooting occurred around 10 p.m. Officers responded to the intersection of North Main and E. Lake St. Barnett had suffered multiple gun shot wounds and died on scene.
According to Salinas PD, the victim had been in a verbal argument that same afternoon. Since that time, Detectives reviewed witness statements and physical evidence which led them to identify Ramirez as the person Barnett was arguing with.
On August 7, Detectives interviewed Ramirez regarding the incident. The District Attorney’s Office said there was enough evidence to arrest Ramirez for the murder of Barnett.
Ramirez has been booked in the Monterey County Jail for one count of homicide and participation in a criminal street gang.
