Castroville man sentenced to six years in state prison for burglary

A Castroville man will receive a six year sentence for residential burglary.

Monterey County District Attorney Dean Flippo announced that 33-year-old Chris Cofer of Castroville entered a plea of no contest for residential burglary last Friday.

Cofer broke into a home on May 31, stealing multiple items, including a computer and a camera. Cofer then tried to rob the home a second time on June 1; however, the resident had set up cameras. Cofer was caught by police on June 6 due to a distinctive tattoo on his face. Cofer had several of the victim’s stolen items in his possession when police arrested him.

Cofer will be sentenced to six years in state prison. He is expected to be sentenced on October 4 before Monterey County Superior Court Judge Andrew Liu.
