Burglary suspect captured in Watsonville

A home burglary suspect is in jail after being caught in Watsonville.

According to police, a homeowner saw Jose Rodriguez and a second suspect in an outside structure on his property on Eileen Street just after 5 a.m. Sunday, August 6th. The homeowner watched the two on his security cameras and called police.

The same home has been burglarized six different times in the past year.

Officers quickly got to the home and set up a perimeter around it. As officers approached the home, the suspects took off into a heavily wooded area.

Officer Javier Ayala and his K-9 Axel were called in to help. They asked the suspect, identified as Javier Rodriguez, to surrender several times with no response. About an hour later, they found one suspect hiding in heavy brush and the K-9 helped apprehend Rodriguez.

Officers later discovered Rodriguez had multiple warrants including a felony warrant for an unrelated burglary.

The second suspect is still on the loose.
