CARMEL VALLEY: Elderly couple in murder suicide ID’d

UPDATE 8/4/2017 11:27 a.m. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspected murder suicide couple of Carmel Valley as John and Marilyn Wood.

The two were found dead in their home on El Potrero Road Thursday morning with a note explaining how they wanted to end their lives.

Two people were found dead at a home in Carmel Valley Thursday morning.

According to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, a 90-year-old man shot and killed his 88-year-old wife before taking his own life. The Sheriff’s Office said the wife had been ill.

The call came in around 8:41 a.m. for a murder suicide at 6 El Potrero Road.

Investigators were on scene for hours and came across a note.

Commander John Thornburg said, “It was a husband and wife, male was 90 years old female was 88 years old, it appears just from the evidence on scene that this was how they decided to end their life.”

The Sheriff’s Office said they are not looking for any suspects and will continue to investigate exactly what happened in the home.
