UPDATE: 16-year-old arrested for Watsonville party store crash

The Watsonville Police Department is investigating a three car crash that sent four children to the hospital.

According to Police, the car crash occurred around 1:40 p.m. near the intersection of Freedom Boulevard and Laurel Street. When officers arrived on scene they found two of the three cars had crashed inside the Marquez Brothers Piñatas party store.

Four children and two adults were found injured inside of the store. The driver of one of the vehicles involved was also injured and taken to an out of county trauma center. All four children were flown to trauma centers but sustained non life threatening injuries. The other two people were treated for their injuries and released on site.

The roadway was closed for more than two hours. City building officials have red tagged the premises due to structure damage.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation, however investigators believe speeding could be a factor. At this time, drugs and alcohol don’t appear to be a factor, police said.

A 16-year-old has been arrested for driving while unlicensed and reckless driving causing injuries. He was booked into juvenile hall.
