Sureno gang members plead guilty to charges for King City shooting

Two Sureno street gang members pled guilty to charges for shooting at two teenagers in King City last August.

29-year-old Victor Manuel Reyes and 20-year-old Placido Omar Casas followed a 16-year old female and her male friend from a memorial gathering for a friend who had been shot in a gang homicide.

The victims drove toward Highway 101 at Canal Street, when one of the suspects started firing at their car. The 16-year-old girl was struck in the head by a bullet and flown to a trauma center in San Jose.

Investigators were able to find Reyes and Casas within 30 minutes of the shooting.

King City Police said community members had reported a suspicious small brown truck in their neighborhood, which happened to belong to the suspects.

The 16-year-old survived the shooting but lost sight in her left eye.

Victor Manuel Reyes pled guilty to assault with a deadly weapon, use of firearm in commission of crime, commission of crime for benefit of criminal street gang, prior strike enhancement. He will be sentenced to 23 years in state prison.

Placido Omar Casas pled guilty to mayhem and commission of crime for benefit of criminal street gang. He will be sentenced to 15-years in state prison.

Reyes and Casas are both from King City and will be sentenced on July 26, 2017.
