Cal Fire battles 32 acre fire near Lockwood

High heat and low humidity helped spread a vegetation fire near Lockwood in Monterey County Friday.

Cal Fire says it started around 4:00 pm near the intersection of Jolon Road and Chadwick Lane. Firefighters found about 10 acres of oak woodland burning. Cal Fire, with the help of the South Monterey County Fire Protection district, fought the fire. They were able to contain it around 6:15 pm at about 32 acres.

There were no injuries from the fire, but one outbuilding and one structure were damaged. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Cal Fire says this is a good reminder to protect yourself from wildfires by creating defensible space, having an exit plan and emergency supplies.
