Snake bites baby, mom laughs and posts video on Facebook

Ryan Smith WFTS- Florida woman is under fire for allowing a snake to bite her one-year-old daughter. The mother posted the incident on her Facebook page and received much backlash.

The mother of the bitten toddler is not being identified because she has not been charged with a crime.

The mother behind the controversial Facebook video said, “It had bitten me and my son and didn’t leave a mark, several times. So, I thought it was a good opportunity to introduce her without actually getting hurt.”

The Highlands County Sheriff’s Office is investigating what happened. In the video, the one-year-old reached into the plastic box, then the snake struck.

She said the baby was not hurt, only scared of the snake’s movement.

“His teeth are too small to actually puncture the skin. So he’s very harmless.”

The family lives on an isolated nine acres on the outskirt of Sebring. The mother told WFTS it’s important her kids learn how to handle all kinds of wildlife and what to stay away from.

“People are too sensitive and don’t bother to ask why. They just think that I hurt my child intentionally, which, the people that know me know that I would never hurt my children.”

Growing up the mother said she learned how to handle reptiles, going out on animal service calls with her father, a Jupiter Police officer. Now she trusts her methods teach her children a valuable lesson.

“And she’s not scared of snakes but she doesn’t want to touch them, either. So, that was my goal,” said the mother.

The video in question has since been taken down from her Facebook.
