Monterey County Sheriff’s recover thousands of dollars worth of fake money

According to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies recovered 288 counterfeit twenty dollar bills.

Law enforcement was tipped off by a local citizen about a backpack secluded in the bushes just off a trail near Toro Park.

The sheriff’s office said, had the fake money not been recovered several local businesses could have potentially been defrauded out of $5,760.

A suspect has not been connected to the counterfeit money. Authorities are working with the U.S. Secret Service to assist Monterey County Sheriffs with figuring out who made the counterfeit bills.
