Minor league baseball returns to Central Coast Saturday

Saturday night will be a big night for baseball fans on the Central Coast, as minor league baseball returns to the area with the home opener of the Monterey Amberjacks.

Over the past two weeks the Pecos league team has been playing on the road. League commissioner Andrew Dunn says the guys are looking forward to their first home game. The team has gotten off to a of a rough start with a one and seven record. Dunn said they’re just ironing out the kinks, which is expected with a new team.

“They have not competed offensively at all. They have had great pitching performances, but they have not swung the bats. So they are learning, they’re making adjustments, but that’s the point of being an expansion team. The good news is they’ll have the adjustments they need by the time they get home,” said League Commissioner Andrew Dunn.

It’s been 20 years since the Salinas Peppers played and the Central Coast had its own professional team. Back in January the City Council approved plans to bring the team to Monterey.

The game begins at 6:30 p.m. at Sollecito Park in Monterey.
